Today’s been a long day, so I’ll just give you some pictures to look at.
I began today by spending 4 hours looking after a very sick patient on the medical ward (for the medics out there: SaO2 60, resp rate 45, heart rate 120). He had heart failure, but with pulmonary oedema so severe that there was a dull bubbling rumble (not even crackles) across the entire chest. There is no oxygen supply, so the best we could do was an oxygen concentrator at 5L/min… but since this wasn’t enough, we then used the concentrator to make a CPAP machine. (PICTURE TO FOLLOW)
Other Ugandan-style things I’ve seen today:

p.s. There was no surgery yesterday, because the hospital had run out of gauze for the operations.
David, thank you for your sharing your experience in Uganda on your blog. It’s inspiring to read about the challenges and adventures that you are having. It is exciting to hear your enthusiasm for people as well as medicine.
Take care
Jon
