Name: David / ‘Doctor David’ / ‘Dodge’

Age: 21

Occupation: 4th-year medical student

What are you doing going to Uganda?

At the start of my 4th year of doctor-training, I get to spend 6 weeks studying medicine somewhere else in the world. Anywhere, in fact, so long as it’s not a war-zone and that there’s a good chance I’ll come back in one piece. (Birmingham wasn’t an option).

I decided to head towards Africa for a completely different experience of healthcare, and came across a missionary hospital in south-west Uganda. Surprisingly several people had heard of it, and it sounded like a nice-enough place. I applied, and they accepted me.

And so, on 3rd September 2009 I shall be jetting off to the land of Uganda to spend a few weeks at Kisiizi hospital (www.kisiizihospital.org.ug/). I genuinely have no idea what to expect, but it’ll be an adventure! Keep coming back to see how I’m getting on…

Just to let you know I sent an e-mail to our MAF Pilot friend in Kampala, to say you were going to Kisiizi Hopsital. Uganda is a big place, but I know he flies to and from various hospitals, and he just might come across you. His name is Laurie Nason, and his wife is Emma. They were part of our church in Leamington Spa when I was vicar there in the 70s and 80s.

    Hope the trip goes well.

    Brian and Judy.

    Hello!

Lovely to receive you news and photos. Please keep safe! One having been to Africa you’ll never be quite the same…

Meriel and are are off to Mozambique on 16 October, working our way to Entebbe / Kampala about 2 weeks later. Then on travels south west from there with our missionary friend who does and teaches eye surgery all over the country. I’ve no idea where our travels will take us then, but if we’re nearby we could pop in for a cup of tea!!

    Every blessing
